When Is The Time to Replace A Sump Pump?

In heavy rains,  your trusty sump pump protects your basement from flooding. A sump pump essentially acts as the last line of protection from a flooded basement, major water damage, and expensive home repairs.

How Long Does a Sump Pump Last?

Even if your product is professionally installed a sump pump replacement is essential every 7-10 years. Typically placed in a basin on your basement floor, your sump pump gathers excess water from drains and redirects it away from the house. Your sump pump's life expectancy depends on how often you have used it, the amount of water it has to displace, and its cycle function time.

Signs Sump Pump Replacement is Needed

That sump pump placed in the basement is out of sight and out of mind. They even fail at the worst possible moment. Here are some signs you need to look out for as an indication of your dying sump pump.

Your sump pump is working its hardest during a heavy rainstorm, but it’s also working as water penetrates into your basement from ground pressure, melting snow or dripping pipes. While sump pumps can’t  prevent water from seeping into your home, their job is to remove water that gathers in your basement.

Your sump pump does not make much noise. So there is anything beyond a low hum as your sump pump  runs, it may be an indication of sump pump replacement. There are a few possible reasons behind these strange sounds — there may be a failed bearing to a jammed impeller. But unusual sounds indicate that your sump pump is worn or damaged.
